After enjoying a "Banned Christian Arts" exhibition in the early 2000's, I’ve been on a quest to find a art form and an art piece that truly reflects my journey as a follower of Jesus.
From the age of 13, I was deeply moved by the pulling of specific secular songs and lyrics and drawn to what I came to recognize as the voice of my First Love conveying his deep affections towards me and his true unwavering companionship and loyalty amidst my troublesome world.
I became attuned to hearing the voice of God woven into the fabric of my daily life—through dreams, visions, a deep understanding of Scripture, and the steady presence of my First Love, a Voice that continues to resonate within me, guiding my heart with its quiet strength.
In 2016, I listened to a Bible study on the Book of Song of Songs, and something in me stirred. The truths I heard felt so alive, I began to imagine them on stage, how they could touch the hearts around me.
A focus on these truths, carefully shaping parts of the dialogue of the Book into a monologue, writing and rewriting it to capture the heart of the creation that I wished to present. I added songs and melodies that our First Love had introduced to me when I was young and confused, and gestures to bring the setting to life.
In 2021, a soprano moved into our little town, and my journey with this artistic production took flight. These lessons breathed life into this monologue, and over the next three years, the composition began to take shape.
The most simplest and perfect words, gestures, and songs in the Songs of Solomon were found, to convey the truths and timeless testimony to the depth of divine innocent love, and the struggles of the heart who accepts his or her First Love.
This Piece of Art is not a mystical or exaggerated claim, but a true and living reflection of my walk with the One who loves us first.
It’s a journey of an integrated heart with Him, our King Jesus, and I long to share His First Love with you and with the world—for eternity.
